  • This installation by Brian C. Moss consists of a multitude of geographical and map-like treatment to the gallery walls. The far end background wall consists of four large panels depicting maps associating to Earth and its landscape data. The left background wall renders as a pixelated red backdrop containing eight visible circle portraits of photos of children's' faces. Each child is different but all hold similar facial expressions of uncertainty or confliction. In the foreground are rectangular pillar-like forms standing at about the height of the children printed or rendered onto them. Contrasting to the wall children, the pillar children are engaged in a much more positive rendition and seem to be smiling. In the lower-left corner of the image, seen here included in the installation are television sets, one facing towards the children and one facing towards the viewer. The television set facing the viewer includes the text: ten. Installed in the neighboring corner of the image is a large stack of paper with grey printed circles on the surface depicting images similar to those on the left wall.
  • This sculptural installation by Mary Beth Hefferman features various, abstract shapes on the walls and on the floor of the gallery. In the center is a large dense bulbous form generating a physical composition of linear wrinkles and curves. The object itself is similar in appearance to a human brain. On the walls of the gallery are other portions of the installation artwork existing as red linear strands emitting from a condensed center point. These impressions generate a gesture of energy and outbursting movements. These wall installations also provoke an illusionary three-dimensional state, moving into the exhibition space, although flat against the walls.
  • This sculptural installation by Rebecca Ripple takes a twisting and winding linear material form gesturing upwards and ascending towards the gallery ceiling. The form renders as metallic in material seen through the metallic coloration and reflection of the inner side of the form in contrast to the black outer side. The entirety of the sculpture exists as three large forms similar in form. Two forms are seated in the center of the space on the gallery floor while the third form is seen in the upper left of the image suspended from the ceiling. This ceiling form is much smaller in scale and shines a gold color. Included with the artwork is the installation of light rods, suspended from the ceiling, casting abstracted shadows onto the gallery wall to the left.
  • This installation by Sam Erenberg includes twenty-five of sixty total mediums sized paintings mounted onto the gallery wall. The paintings are arranged side-by-side horizontally bisecting the gallery walls with a small spacial distance in between each painting. The surface of the artworks has been treated with a deep black pigment and contains small renditions of individual words, phrases, or texts implemented in a contrasting white pigment.

City of Los Angeles (COLA) Individual Artist Fellowship Exhibition

Awarded annually by DCA, the COLA Fellowships support the creation of new works by a selection of the City’s most exemplary mid-career artists. The COLA exhibition honors these creative visionaries and nurtures the symbiotic relationship between Los Angeles, its artists, its history, and its identity as an international arts capital.
