The following general guidelines have been implemented to keep staff and visitors as safe as possible while still offering a welcoming, inclusive and engaging experience for everyone. Please read through the updated guidelines and additional information, including COVID-19 protocols, ahead of your next visit. Visiting policies and hours have been temporarily amended as we continue to transition back to hosting in-person arts programming. Access to the gallery and available programming is contingent on adherence to all of the following appointment guidelines, COVID-19 guidelines, and the gallery’s general visitation guidelines. The gallery reserves the right to cancel appointments in the event that any of the guidelines are not followed by any individual(s) and/or due to change in scheduling, staffing, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery

The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is located in Barnsdall Art Park in Los Angeles.
We encourage visitors to cycle, rideshare and take public transportation to the gallery. Cyclists can plan their route using LADOT Dash or Metro bike maps. Bicycle racks are located near the accessible parking spaces across from the Hollyhock House driveway.
Barnsdall Art Park is served by the Hollywood Clockwise and Hollywood Counterclockwise Dash Route. Dash bus stop: Vermont and Hollywood. See LADOT Dash for the Dash route map. The nearest subway stop is the Vermont/Sunset stop on the Metro Red Line. From the station, walk north on Vermont Avenue towards Hollywood Boulevard, turn left onto Barnsdall Avenue and enter through the Southeast entrance. Metro 754 on Vermont and 780 on Hollywood all stop within half a block of Barnsdall. See the Metro website for bus and subway maps.
Cars can access Barnsdall Art Park via the Lower Road on Hollywood Boulevard. Parking is free but limited and can be found in Barnsdall Park at the top and the bottom of the hill. Accessible parking is found at the top of the hill at the Hollyhock House motor court for those with limited mobility. Additional accessible parking is located in front of the Junior Art Center.
When the Gallery is open to the public, the following policies are in effect.
Visitors are welcome to take photos – please tag us in your photos @lamagbarnsdall.
Flash photography, tripods and/or selfie sticks are not permitted. Additional photographic equipment such as lights, reflectors, props, costumes, handheld microphones, models, and drones are also prohibited.
Service animals are permitted inside the gallery so long as they are harnessed, leashed or tethered.
All non-service animals and/or pets are not permitted inside the gallery.
Bags measuring greater than 11 x 16 inches, food and drink are not permitted inside the gallery. The gallery can not temporarily store these items during visits.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
At this time, the bathrooms and water fountain in LAMAG are not available due to sanitation issues. Public bathrooms are available adjacent to the lawn area.

VACCINATION CHECK REQUIRED: As a City of Los Angeles-operated facility, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is subject to Municipal Code Section 200.123, which requires proof of full vaccination* or proof of negative COVID test taken in the past 72 hours** for entry.
All guests ages 12 and older will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination by presenting their original vaccination card, a photo/digital copy of their card (both sides), documentation of vaccination from a licensed healthcare provider, or an electronic vaccination card. Proof must also be verified with a valid form of I.D. (driver’s license, government issued I.D. card, school or work I.D. card, passport) for those visitors ages 18 and older. The name on the I.D. must match that on the vaccination record.
Guests ages 12 and older who are not fully vaccinated must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 72 hours prior to their visit.**
*Full Vaccination means having received a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine, at least two weeks prior to the date of entry. The vaccination record MUST include the full name, type of vaccination, and date the last dose was administered.
**Proof of Negative COVID-19 Test means a printed document, email or text message displayed on a phone, from a test provider or laboratory that shows results of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or antigen COVID-19 test that either has Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or is operating per the Laboratory Developed Test requirements by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, that was conducted within 72 hours before entry into a Covered Location or City Facility. The printed document, email, or text message must include the person’s name, type of test performed, date of the test, and negative test result. (Amended by Ord. No. 187,455, Eff. 4/1/22.)
What we are doing to keep our community safe:
All staff are required to comply with the City of Los Angeles’ vaccination requirements for municipal employees and stay at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
A hand-sanitizer station is available for all to use while onsite.
Capacity is limited and by appointment only to allow for greater social distancing.
Masks are available upon request while indoors.
LAMAG encourages families and visitors of all ages to experience our exhibitions with the goal of inspiring rich inter-generational discussions. For each exhibition, LAMAG develops a Family Guide, which includes key concepts and activities families can engage in for a more meaningful gallery experience.
Accommodations may be provided upon request. To ensure availability, please make your request at least three to five business days prior to your visit.
